Enjoy holiday themed tours throughout the Tryon Palace grounds through Jan. 3, 2018. Holiday tours offer a chance to see the Governor's Palace, Dixon House, and Stanly House decorated for different eras of holiday traditions, ranging from the 18th to 20th centuries.

Santa House and SNOW!

Friday, November 24th to Sunday, December 24th

Santa House is located in festive Bear Plaza (Middle Street between Pollock and S. Front Street). Join Santa and his elves as they open the Santa House during Light Up the Season (Friday November 24th). Santa’s helpers will be taking pictures with Santa for $5 through Saturday, December 24th. Beary Merry Christmas magnetic picture frames will also be available for purchase.

Trolley Polar Express Ride

Friday, December 1st to Saturday, December 23rd

Jump on the Polar Express in this 1-hour tour filled with caroling, a trip to see the lights on Canterbury Lane and a visit with “The Conductor” and Santa’s Elves. This trip will begin on the Hancock Street side of the O’Marks Building on Middle Street and will end in front of the Santa House on Middle Street. Don’t forget to wear your jammies for this fun-filled trip on the Polar Express Trolley. Every guest will receive a special gift at the end of the tour, their very own Believe sleigh bell!

Chamber Music by Candlelight at Tryon Palace

UNCW’s Early Music Consort will perform in the Palace Council Chamber, lit by candlelight. Reception following with light desserts, coffee, wine, in Commission House. The concert will be taking place in the Palace Chamber Council (Palace doors open at 6:30. Enter through Eden St. gate.) and Commission House.

Craven Community Chorus presents Noel, Noel featuring Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” under the direction of Philip Evancho. The second half of the concert will include traditional and not so traditional Christmas songs like, Baby, it’s Cold Outside, Cold and Fugue Season, An African Celebration, Jazz Gloria and more. Accompaniment for the concert will be provided by Cheryl Kite, pianist and Rachel Pino with the Trent River Orchestra.

New Bern Christmas Parade

Each year on the 1st Saturday in December the New Bern Christmas Parade brings the entire community together to celebrate the Holiday Season. And it’s the Craven County Jaycees who bring this event to the community! The money raised and toys donated are used to provide a “Here Comes Santa” Party for area mentally and physically challenged youth in Craven County.

33rd Annual Coastal Christmas Flotilla

Saturday, December 2nd from 4:30pm to 7:30pm

New Bern Parks & Recreation is pleased to bring you the 33rd Annual Coastal Christmas Flotilla on December 2nd at Union Point Park. Special guests include the 2D MAW Band from Cherry Point, Brian North from WCTI 12, and Santa Clause! The flotilla features various types of watercraft, all decorated in their own unique way. The 2D MAW Band will kick off at 4:45 pm, followed by the boat parade and, then Santa Clause! The flotilla will begin at the Eastern Carolina Yacht Club, and sail past Union Point Park at approximately 5:30 pm, then on to Council Bluff Green Park, and back in front of Union Point Park! Santa will greet children in Union Point Park at the conclusion of the Flotilla.

Holiday Décor Behind the Scenes at Tryon Palace

Join us for a behind the scenes tour of the Palace Candlelight decorations. Gardens and Greenhouse Manager Hadley Cheris will lead a tour of the first floor of the Palace, describing the special items used in the decorations and the theme of the pieces.

Behind the Scenes at Tryon Palace: Costume Shop

Tuesday, December 5th from 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Tryon Palace historic clothing interpreter Leslie Lambrecht will lead a tour of the historic Jones House with a brief description of the house and then through the Tryon Palace Costume Shop on the first floor of the house. The costumer will discuss historical clothing research, the sewing techniques used in the past, and current projects for upcoming events. Tour begins and ends at the Palace Gates.

ArtWalk and ARTcrawl are a fun, casual celebration of art and community in downtown New Bern, held every second Friday of each month (yes, even in winter!). It begins at 5 p.m. and usually goes till 8 p.m.–but on warm summer nights, it has been known to go on until 10 o’clock. The New Bern Woman’s Club invites you to join them in a favorite holiday activity on Saturday, December 9th when they present their annual The Holly & The Ivy Holiday Homes Tour.  Stroll through the charming streets of New Bern while visiting five historic homes festively decorated for the holiday season and a fabulous new condo in a historic downtown building.  Be sure to stop in at the Sugar Plum Treats House (717 Pollock Street), one of the oldest homes in New Bern circa 1760, for homemade cookies and warm cider.  Photos of all the homes on the tour can be found on the New Bern Woman’s Club website.

James Ogle, conductor, will return to New Bern for the thirty-fifth performance of George Friderick Handel’s Messiah, set for Monday, December 11th at Centenary United Methodist Church, on the corner of New and Middle Streets.  An Open Rehearsal will be held at 3:00 p.m. and a performance at 7:30 p.m.

19th Annual Cookie Walk

Christ Episcopal Church is once again holding the annual Cookie Walk. There will be homemade cookies, pastries, and specialty items along with hostess trays for sale. The craft table will display homemade gifts, just in time for Christmas. Come Early! First 25 people in line receive free coffee. Holiday music will be provided by budding young musicians.
